Update HTC One Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Custom ROM Firmware

Note: If this tutorial worked for you (and it should work), please leave a comment below. Thanks.

The Orio One custom ROM comes with latest Jelly Bean 4.1.2 OS above all, though we are not dealing with the stock software. This is a custom firmware that features its own looks, apps and tools, which mostly can’t be found in the default version of the Jelly Bean platform. Therefore, by flashing the Orio One system on your HTC One, you will update your phone with a new OS that is different from the official variant of Jelly Bean. The best part is that once you apply the present update you will notice that you are using a more stable Android platform and the previous bugs and issues (there are some problems reported by the HTC One users – like camera issues) have been resolved.

First of all, your HTC One must be rooted. A custom ROM can’t be installed on a locked handset as the firmware needs to access the internal system. The mentioned access can be provided only if you root your phone, so first unchain the system of your One. Be aware and be careful when doing the same as the warranty will get void. Then, after rooting you must also install a custom recovery image on your smartphone because the stock recovery can’t be used on the update procedure. And as a final note related to the up-presented aspects, the warranty can be restored if needed; you only have to downgrade or update to stock / official Android OS.

Finally, there are the general pre requisites. I have listed the same below, so don’t skip the next list of tasks:
  • The update file will have to be downloaded on a computer first, so make sure that you are having access to a notebook that has internet connection enabled.
  • Next, the firmware will have to be transferred to your HTC One, so also ensure that your phone and its USB cord are near you.
  • Now, for avoiding the unpleasant situations, deactivate the security programs that are running on both computer and handset; the antivirus tools are usually interfering with the flashing operation.
  • You need to enable the USB debugging option on your smartphone or else you will not be able to properly connect it with the PC (for the USB debugging option go to “Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging”.
  • Also, if possible, charge the battery of your device, especially if you notice that it has less than 50% power left; you don’t want your phone to get turned off while the Orio One firmware is being applied.
This step by step guide is being compatible only with the HTC One; applying the tutorial for updating another handsets with the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 based Orio One custom ROM will probably brick your Android based device.

How to Update HTC One with Orio One Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Custom ROM Firmware

  1. Download the Orio One firmware from here; save the software on your computer.
  2. Don’t extract the update file.
  3. Then, take your HTC One and by using its USB cable, connect the phone with the computer.
  4. Select the downloaded file and copy-paste (or drag and drop) it from your computer, to your handset.
  5. You need to unplug the USB cable and turn off your device.
  6. Reboot the smartphone into recovery mode, as from there you will flash the ROM.
  7. From recovery first select “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvik cache”.
  8. Select “+++go back+++”.
  9. And then choose “install zip from sd card” followed by “choose zip from sd card”.
  10. Pick the update file from the HTC One and start the flashing operation.
  11. In the end, you will need to select “+++go back+++” followed by “reboot system now” and you are done.
  12. In case you will be stuck in a boot loop, reboot into recovery mode once more and this time select “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”; reboot and everything should be fine now.
  13. Note: if the first boot will take longer than usual, don’t panic, there is nothing wrong with your device.
There you have it; that was how you can learn how to manually update your HTC One with the Orio One Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean custom ROM firmware.
